Hi there! I’m Karen Maruyama Bolognese, and I’m running for re-election to the Winchester School Committee. I’m the first Asian American Chair of the School Committee and have been honored to serve the community in this role. My job on School Committee is to look at issues and options broadly and work with the community and district to make the best decisions I can for all students.

As a parent, I understand how important it is for our schools to reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of all our students and families. Under my leadership, I’ve worked hard to listen to our community members and to build strong relationships with local and state officials. This allows me to make well-informed decisions and help our district obtain the resources and support it needs. Progress and long-lasting results take time and hard work to get right.

I believe in providing opportunities for every student, whether in academic excellence, sports achievements, special education, or fostering creativity through music and arts programs. Each child should have access to the programs that help them explore their passions and reach their full potential.

I also take fiscal responsibility seriously & recognize that our tax burden falls heavily on our residents. I’m committed to making sure our budget supports our priorities — making our excellent schools even stronger and keeping them financially sustainable in the town over the long-term. That’s why I’ve been excited to work with district leadership on the 5 year strategic business plan, Winchester 2030..
